Shahed Akhtar is an accomplished International Affairs and Security analyst with over thirty years of experience in diplomacy. His expertise lies in the fields of Economic, Public, and Cultural Diplomacy. He has notably represented Bangladesh in various international forums. Mr. Akhtar has held significant positions such as CEO and Executive Advisor at BGCCI, served as the Editor of the quarterly Business magazine, and the monthly Business Bulletin.
His professional background has equipped him to handle trade, commerce, and investment issues related to Bangladesh. Throughout his diplomatic career, he served as Ambassador in Spain, Thailand, and Cambodia. He also acted as the Permanent Representative to the UN-ESCAP and the WTO. He held the position of Deputy High Commissioner in the UK and Malaysia and served in various diplomatic assignments in New York, Bangkok, London, Spain, and Kuala Lumpur.
His final public office was as the Principal of the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy.
Shahed Akhtar’s international engagement extends to being a member of the International Observer Group in Ghana for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections held in December 2013.
In terms of his education, he holds a degree in Economics and a Masters in Political Science. He is an alumnus of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., and the National Defence College in Dhaka. Currently, he serves as the Editor of the monthly; Diplomats World; and holds the position of Founder Director for organizations like The Dhaka Forum and the Commonwealth Society. He has also been the Past President of the Rotary Club of Ramna, Dhaka.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shahed Akhtar has a keen interest in golf and enjoys visiting places of historical and cultural significance.
